“Waiting for the Right Moment” – Fine Art Print

Pied Kingfisher | Bontvisvanger | Ceryle rudis

Waiting for the Right Moment explores patience as a form of quiet focus. The Pied Kingfisher is depicted perched in attentive observation, body composed and alert. Known for its remarkable ability to hover above water before diving with precision, the bird becomes a study of concentration, timing, and the discipline of waiting.

Rendered with careful attention to form and feather detail, the artwork focuses on the character of the bird rather than its environment. The absence of a defined background allows the figure to exist in isolation, drawing attention toward the striking contrast of its plumage, the raised crest, and the purposeful posture that reflects its attentive nature. The composition captures a sense of anticipation, suggesting a moment suspended between observation and action.

This work forms part of an ongoing practice centred on African wildlife and the quiet intelligence found within natural behaviours. Reproduced from an original watercolour study, the artwork reflects a slow, observational approach to drawing and painting, exploring the relationship between patience, awareness, and the instinctive behaviours that shape life in the natural world. The title draws inspiration from the Pied Kingfisher’s remarkable hunting strategy, where success depends not on haste, but on knowing when to act.
