“On Guard” – Fine Art Print

On Guard explores the quiet vigilance of the meerkat — a creature defined by attentiveness, community, and instinctive awareness. Standing upright, the figure occupies a moment of pause, embodying both watchfulness and restraint within an open, unmarked space.

Rendered with careful attention to texture and form, this drawing reflects an interest in animals not as spectacle, but as beings shaped by their environment. The sparse composition and generous use of negative space enable the subject to stand out without distraction, inviting a slower and more contemplative viewing experience.

This work forms part of an ongoing body of practice centred on African wildlife, observation, and stillness. The drawing process is deliberate and unhurried, mirroring the qualities of patience and presence found within the subject itself.
